Larrimac resident, Steve Ott, has announced his candidacy to replace recently retired councilor, Pierre Doran, in Chelsea Ward 4 in the August 29th by-election.
Mr. Ott's wide and varied experience ensures that he is well suited to the task at hand. He spent over 11 years as an applications developer in the telecommunications industry and currently works as a team lead in a web development group with Cognos, an Ottawa-based software development company, where he has been for the past 5 years.
As the elected president of the Ottawa Carleton Ultimate Association (www.ocua.ca), Mr. Ott works with the 5,000 plus member sports organization managing the board of directors, and the overall operations, including close to a 3/4 million dollar budget.
Additionally, Mr. Ott owns and operates Ottawa Valley Home Inspections Ltd., providing home inspection services in the Ottawa and Chelsea areas. (www.ovhi.ca).
Key issues Mr. Ott would like to see addressed while serving his term include providing more transparency for council, infrastructure investments for roads, bike paths and trails in the Ward, and increased support for FOG (Friends of the Gatineau) and ACRE (Action Chelsea for the Respect of the Environment).
Mr. Ott is an avid outdoors person who enjoys the year-round activities available in his community. He's an avid curler and plays Ultimate (frisbee) in the summer, competing at the national and international levels. He is also currently building a new home in Larrimac this summer with his wife and new born son.
